Health benefits when walking to school

Parents were encouraged to leave the car at home and walk their children to school last month.

The International Walk to School month took place across October - but it is hoped the initiative will continue throughout the winter.

Hampshire County Council says there are numerous benefits to walking to school.

Councillor Rob Humby, who is an executive member for transpose says everyone can get involved with regularly walking to school.

He said: “We can all do our bit to improve local air quality by the way we choose to travel.

“We are keen to encourage everyone to try different options on their daily commute to work and school, and leave the car at home if they can.”

Schools across the Rowlands Castle and Havant area are encouraged to promote a walking to school scheme.
