The Rowans Hospice Trading Company is pleased to announce the re-opening of its shop in Bishops Waltham. The shop will open to customers on Friday 3 February at 9.30am for the first time since a flood caused significant damage several weeks ago.
The shop at 2a High Street has proven to be extremely popular with members of the public since it opened on 2 July 2010, with customers not only coming from the local area but travelling from as far afield as Petersfield and Portsmouth.
The staff and volunteers are looking forward to welcoming back their supporters as well as hoping to attract new customers with lots of fresh stock to choose from. Vanessa Gilding, Operations Manager for The Rowans Hospice Trading Company, said: “We are very lucky to have a strong customer-base who regularly shop with us. I know many people have missed us and are excited about the shop re-opening in the High Street.
“It is thanks to our volunteers, the shoppers and the community’s generous donations that we are able to help fund Hospice Care for local people, and every single pound we receive makes a difference.
The Rowans Hospice operates a total of ten shops, plus a furniture warehouse in Farlington, which all play a vital role helping to raise funds to care for local people living with life-limiting illness. Last year the Trading Company generated a profit of £232,463, which went towards funding The Rowans Hospice.
Donations of high-quality clothing, shoes, handbags and items for the home including bric-a-brac are always welcome at the shops and CDs and DVDs as well as books and household linen are also accepted. For more information or to arrange a home collection for your donations, please contact the trading company on 023 9238 3611.

Annual 6-a-Side Tournament
Following the Christmas and New Year fixture break, and matches called off due to frozen pitches, it allows some time to look forward to our Annual 6-a-Side tournament that will be held on weekend of 16th and 17th June, and will be entering its 33rd year in 2012. The tournament, which is one of the largest in Hampshire, attracts more than 200 teams, ranging from Under 7 age group to Under 18, and will once again feature a number of age groups for girls. We will again be located on the playing fields at Penns Place, Petersfield.
The competition follows a format of the initial stages run in leagues, with the top two teams in each league proceeding to the Quarter Finals. From this stage the competitions will be completed on a knock-out basis. The Under 7s and 8s age groups will be held as a festival format with all players taking home medals.
Can You help? In order to make this tournament the success it is, we have a team of volunteers that work tirelessly to organize the event. However, we are always on the look-out for fresh ideas and new people to be involved in the event, whether this is through sponsorship or help in the general organisation.

Aspire & PTJ Working Together
Petersfield Town Juniors are pleased to work together with Aspire coaching for the development of our younger players. Aspire have been established for 18 years in the Petersfield area, and all staff are fully FA qualified as well as being first aid trained and CRB checked.
Aspire offer a way into football for children aged 5 – 8 years old. They provide all the necessary skills to prepare children to play in a team including positive social skills, essential fundamental movements and game understanding. In 18 years they have grown from 15 under 9 children, to cover 100 children in under 6, 7 and 8 age groups and now having just started a girls under 9 section, in the future the hope is to expand the whole mini section further to provide as much opportunity as possible for local children to play football.

Strong Island; born from a simple conversation between artists and photographers Paul Gonella & Tristan Savage over some drinks on Albert Road, Southsea.
The idea; to create a forum for people passionate about where they live and to promote its events, gigs, exhibitions and to bring them all into one place.
Launched 8 days later on the 27th September 2008, with some of the artist’s own photos and videos alongside scans of flyers they picked up round the city. Strong Island has really taken off since it’s humble beginnings, with both artists operating, maintaining, updating and writing posts in their free time outside of ‘normal’ working hours.
Unfunded and inde-pendent, Strong Island has managed to keep the original ethos of quite simply being a site designed to promote, showcase and inform people about Portsmouth and Southsea’s scene. Be it content past, present or future, Strong Island is constantly updating with photos, interviews and articles about the city.
If you ever have anything to contribute to the collective, head on over to www.strong-island.co.uk and get in touch!
